Big Dig Visitor's Center
competition entry

The Central Artery/Tunnel
is the largest, most complex and technologically challenging highway project ever attempted in American History. "What happened? A visitor center that orients the visitor (or native) with the morphology of the city seems to require participation in that morphology. We view morphology as a combination of additive and subtractive measures, both of which can be registered and "preserved" in a physical form. Rather than a walking tour of the void left by this massive-scale erasure, we are proposing to create a layering of different structures and infrastructures that have shaped and been shaped by the city over time.
